Propane offers excellent cold weather performance but it needs to be stored at high pressure. Consequently, a canister designed to operate solely off of propane would weigh too much to be useful for backpacking. Think of the heavy-duty white propane tanks used for backyard grills and you’ll understand why backpacking stoves use a mixture of fuels. Isobutane operates at a lower pressure than propane but is less effective in cold temperatures. Combining the two allows for a lighter weight canister that is ideal for backpacking and functions well in a wide range of temperatures.
Because our fuel canisters are made of steel, recycling them is easy. Once a canister is spent, puncture it with a fuel canister recycling tool and allow it to sit while the small amount of gas remaining inside escapes. In most cases the canister can then be disposed of with the rest of your recycling. As always, check your local regulations first.
Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Store in a well-ventilated place. Protect from exposure to sunlight, or heating elements.
