Staff Accountant

PURPOSE

The Staff Accountant is responsible for keeping accounting books clean and preparing financial reports to track the organizations assets, liabilities, budgets, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Serving as the main liaison between Snow Peak and the accounting team, this position maintains key relationships internally and externally. To be successful in this role, the Staff Accountant will create order out of chaos by providing excellent administrative support to keep the department and offices running smoothly.


This position is a full time salary position with benefit eligibility and reports to the Controller. The starting compensation is between $60k and $65k depending on experience and the hours are Mon-Fri between 8am – 5pm in NE Portland, Oregon

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop, monitor and refine departmental budgeting for Snow Peak USA; provide one on one engagement on budgets and accounting
  • Provide excellent customer service with external accounts and maintain vendor relationships; collaborate with internal teams to ensure that communication flows smoothly
  • Maintain and manage office administrative expenditure
  • Responsible for the various ledgers including cash disbursements, cash receipts, accounts payable, month-end payroll summary, accounts receivable summary, and journal entries to adjust the general ledger
  • Prepare periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements; generate monthly reports including accounts payable reconciliation, accounts receivable reconciliation, cash flow report, and balance sheet audits
  • Audit and close the monthly books, code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts
  • File required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies
  • Provide outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, training and development of the accounting team
  • Act a liaison between employees and accounting leadership to create a collaborative work environment
  • Function as Manager on Duty (MOD) when other managers are not present
  • Supervise and audit accounting data entry including accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, reconciliation of credit cards and bank accounts
  • Resolve escalated issues related to invoices, credit memos, debit memos, purchase orders
  • Lead special projects for the accounting department
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to educate and inform on best practices and new developments in accounting
  • Analyze statistical data to provide reports, answer questions, identify patterns; formulate logical conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications
  • Develop, monitor and refine process improvements by building, adapting and maintaining tools, reports, documentation and standards
  • Support change management processes; participate in team meetings; provide knowledge, support, and advice for interdepartmental process improvements, projects, or policy revisions

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years of experience/li>
  • Proficient knowledge of accounting systems (SAP, Sage)
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficient understanding of the financial and business acumen to drive profitability
  • Advanced expertise in excel and analytical reporting
  • Advanced expertise in the success factors and best practices for accounting
  • Ability to learn quickly; creatively solve new problems
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Proficient interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to efficiently manage multiple, concurrent, time-sensitive projects and priorities
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Extremely organized with meticulous attention to detail

 

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with Japanese language and culture
  • Experience in the outdoor, retail, or apparel industries

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
