Sales Manager - West

PURPOSE

The Sales Manager will oversee sales activities within a defined territory and manage sales representatives. This position manages strategic account relationships, develops profitable sales programs, and determines promotional strategies for existing retailers and distributors, as well as targeted new dealers. The Sales Manager is an internal expert on the unique product, marketing and service needs for these strategic partners. In addition, this position develops new customer relationships, negotiates annual programs, and maintains internal communications and follow-up. The Sales Manager will partner with the Chief Revenue Officer to complement and drive expansion efforts in alignment with regional plans and resources.

STRUCTURE

  • Classification: Full Time, Non-exempt
  • Schedule: Weekend work is occasionally required.  This position will travel up to 50% of the time in support of our sales accounts, events and tradeshows
  • Location: Portland, OR (potential for remote work)
  • Reports To: Chief Revenue Officer
  • Supervising Others: Yes

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide leadership to the sales team including hiring support, developing, and managing sales representatives
  • Conduct performance evaluations and agency reviews that are timely and constructive
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop sales goals, targets, and strategies
  • Assign territories and set sales team goals and targets
  • Manage and serve as primary point of contact for key accounts
  • Motivate and encourage sales team to ensure goals and targets are met
  • Drive profitable growth opportunities as set forth in strategic plans and senior level directives
  • Achieve sales operational objectives by preparing and completing action plans; resolving problems; identifying trends; and delivering sales results
  • Observe and communicate “voice of customer” into the team and help drive cross-functional success
  • Review and analyze sales and operational records and reports; uses data to project sales, determine profitability and targets, and identify potential new markets
  • Support sales budget; monitors and approves expenses
  • Meet financial sales objectives by contributing to forecasting requirements, operating within an annual budget, and communicating expenditure timing
  • Contribute to monthly/quarterly/annual category analysis, including share development, retail space development, and brand/promotional activities
  • Maintain regular sales contacts with each strategic customer and distribution business partner, including periodic market visits
  • Consult with potential customers to understand their needs; identifies and suggests equipment, products, or services that will meet those needs
  • Execute sales of all products and new items, promotions and other sales initiatives to appropriate distribution business partner and/or strategic customers
  • Drive meeting and event planning
  • Resolve customer complaints, staffing problems, and other issues that may interfere with efficient sales operations
  • Contribute to identification of opportunities for profitable growth through organic expansion with existing customers and opening new partners across channels of distribution
  • Remain well informed and connected on products, applications, technical service, training and market conditions
  • Deliver in an effective and efficient manner other duties, responsibilities, and projects as may be assigned

MUST HAVE

  • BS or BA degree from a college or university in a related field
  • 5+ years of sales experience
  • 3+ years of sales management experience
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superior abilities to use financial data to make decisions and maximize account profitability
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent sales and customer service skills with proven negotiation skills
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Strong ability to multitask and complete work while traveling
  • Strong knowledge of territory, market, and clients
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new software
  • A creative mind with an ability to take initiative and be resourceful

    NICE TO HAVE

    • Masters degree from a college or university in a related field
    • Outdoor, sporting goods and internet retailer experience strongly preferred

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
    • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
    • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
    • Must have corrected vision to 20/20
