Assistant Retail Store Manager - NYC

PURPOSE

The Assistant Store Manager works closely with the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations including customer service, team building, merchandising, marketing opportunities, inventory management, and opening/closing the store.

 

STRUCTURE

  • Classification: Full Time, Non-exempt
  • Schedule: Weekend and holiday work is required.
  • Location: NYC, NY
  • Reports To: Store Manager
  • Supervising Others: Occasionally

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Day-to-day Operations

  • Assist Store Manager with providing a strong leadership presence and control in store, while ensuring that all customers receive good service and quality merchandise
  • Ensure all pricing, signage, and displays are correct at all times
  • Receive regular deliveries and stocks sales floor in a timely manner
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization on sales floor, showroom and back stock areas
  • Open and Close store

Customer Service

  • Create a welcoming environment for the customer by greeting and assisting; as well as quickly responding to customer inquiries and needs

Team Building

  • Demonstrate desired behaviors for staff including driving sales, handling difficult and/or complicated sales, cash management, inventory, and follow-up with customers
  • Help Store Manager in identifying training needs and providing ongoing training opportunities to the team as needed
  • Leverage individual staff strengths, encouraging employee development and motivation
  • Coach sales associates on sales techniques and operational duties
  • Assist in hiring to the needs of the business, actively recruiting to ensure open positions are filled quickly
  • Build and train a capable and talented team of part time employees and ensure development of the overall store team
  • Maintain a robust training program for retail store associates
  • Assist Store Manager in delivering consistent, in the moment, feedback and coaching
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures, including health, safety, and security

Merchandising

  • Communicate sell through and suggest strategies for future forecasting 
  • Lead merchandising planning and works together with creative team and store manager on the store re-merchandising

Marketing Opportunities

  • Utilize company tools to diagnose opportunities and develops action plans to improve performance
  • Identify opportunities to drive traffic into the store through community events (art shows, clinics, etc.)
  • Communicate regularly with Store Manager to discuss strengths, opportunities, and trends in business

Inventory Management

  • Manage and control shrink

 

MUST HAVE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in retail store management
  • Superior communication skills including active listening
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superior leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop employees
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent public speaking
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Proficient understanding of the financial and business acumen to drive store profitability
  • A drive to set objectives and exceed goals
  • A creative mind with an ability to take initiative and be resourceful
  • A passion for the outdoors and the beneficial role it plays in people’s lives

    NICE TO HAVE

    • Higher Education from a college or university
    • Experience in the outdoor, restaurant or apparel industries
    • Cooking Skills 
    • Driver’s License

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Prolonged periods standing
    • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
    • Communicate effectively with a diverse audience in person, by phone and by computer
